Longform stuff wasn't as popular as it is now. It's the biggest thing now. It's a sleeping aid, and a loneliness/emptiness buffer. People aren't browsing for content if they just want someone to prattle in their ear while they're only half listening. People have two ways of consuming content now. Scrolling short feeds like tiktok, or listening to longform content in the background. I believe that actually 'avid watching' is dying out as an activity in itself.

i use an android phone but i grew up on macOS - that's the one I don't know how to quit. I've owned one windows computer. It was terrible. but now i can play even less games than i could on my 8 year old mac I replaced, because rather than create a way to play old games, apple just said 'nah that sounds like work to let you play 32 bit games'. And yet, if given the choice again? i'd probably still get a mac. My mac lasted me through about 5 different windows laptops my brother had, and with apple care i actually ended up paying less to fix it than he did on his. Samsung and Google can go toe to toe on tablets and smartphones. Where's their entry in the laptop and desktop OS game? chromebooks? yeah, no. This is a genuine question, what's the macbook killer.

I find it yo be the complete opposite. I get Chipotle up to 2 times a week and when I order online I get 1/2 steak 1/2 carnitas with extra rice, extra beans, extra of both tomato and corn salsas, extra veggies and cheese it comes out packed every time. I swear it weighs atleast 3 pounds sometimes. And the meat isn't skimpy at all, its like getting double meat for free. $11 after tax

Chipotle is weird. It can be really quite good but it can also be some of the trashiest food. How they manage such variety with the same ingredients is a mystery. Very much depends on which one because consistency ain't their thing.

Personally I try to severely limit short form content consumption, not only does it waste time, it doesn't usually have a satisfying endpoint. The Doom Scroll. I even hesitate to share long form video now because I don't know if the person I send it to will have the attention to give the whole video a watch. It also feels like there's been a decline in long form content but that might just be my own content preferences changing.

UA-cam and UA-cam Shorts should be two different products and two different platforms. I strongly dislike shorts not only as a consumer but also because it makes UA-cam about mindless scrolling UA-cam instead of following creators and catering content that's useful and entertaining according to your own personal taste.

UA-cam does feel off, I came because whenever I use search now I get crappy results, instead of seeing the best and my favorite creators I see, mediocre creators who I watched in the past but don't like

When it comes to food I am not a picky eater. If it was survival, I'd eat anything even if its basic. I dont have like a super refined palate that must be quenched by a 5 Star Chef. 42:22 well I am not one of those "Americans" I eat protein every morning why? Yes to ALL of this. As a former employee, watching the way they handled unionization efforts (union busting) and the pandemic (i have LONG covid and got it at work) are why i left. I still use the products but being critical of the company is important. I wish they would do better! someday, maybe they will. I when i was in my prime at the company though, I had a mentor tell me that my philosophy on what apple is was very "old school" she said i absolutely wouldve been hired on at corporate during the steve days. It took me 3 years to come to terms with the reality that what we all idealized, especially the company's support of creatives, just isnt what it used to be. Criticism is a hope for a better future, thanks for making this!

What I think this shows is how crude the UA-cam system is at analyzing small channels with huge audiences or data profiles to determine what niche a small channel is in. It may also be the case that UA-cam is using the available data but small creators haven't nailed down into their niche yet, so UA-cam would be saying "this person has uploaded 3 beach videos" then recommends a track running video to people interested in the beach stuff as that is all the system has to go on. What ever the case, a lot of tweaking is needed.
